Losing natural facial volume is a significant part of the aging process. As we lose volume, it causes sunken cheeks and results in more pronounced lines and creases. This loss of youthful facial contours and smooth, wrinkle-free skin can be reversed with a facial fat transfer procedure.
Recovery After Facial Fat Grafting
Recovery time varies from person to person, as every patient is unique. Generally, patients require one or two weeks off from work and usual activities to get plenty of rest and time to recuperate after the procedure.
Expect to swell and bruise in the facial areas where the fat cells were injected. There will also be bruising and swelling in the area of the body where liposuction was performed. This is more significant during the first several days after your surgery. After the first week, swelling and bruising will begin to subside significantly.
By the two-week mark, most of the swelling will have reduced. You will feel recovered, but the fat tissues will still be settling. Some of the fat cells will be naturally absorbed by your body during the first three or four months after facial fat transfer. This is an expected part of your healing after your surgery and is compensated for during the fat tissue injection process. For your final results to be completely realized and the new fat tissues to settle, it can take up to 6-9 months.
