These photos give Dr. Courtney valuable insight into your facial structure and help him better plan your custom facelift procedure. Pictures of your family members can also be useful, as they can help Dr. Courtney visualize your goals.

Dr. Courtney offers the Vectra XT 3D imaging system. This technology superimposes the changes that you and Dr. Courtney discuss on a 3D image of your face, helping you understand which procedures will render the most natural and flattering results. The Facelift procedure

The first step of a facelift is placing you under general anesthesia. You will be unconscious during the procedure. We carefully vet our board-certified anesthesiologists, ensuring you get the best care. During the facelift, Dr. Courtney does more than cut and tighten skin. He contours the underlying superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS), a layer of muscle, connective tissue, and fat underneath the skin. Aging impacts the SMAS as much as the skin, so altering the SMAS is a critical step in achieving a superior outcome — fresh and natural, not pulled.

Once the SMAS is recontoured, Dr. Courtney removes excess skin and closes the incisions. The entire surgery can take a few hours to complete, with additional time required when there are other accompanying procedures.

Facelift recovery at our AAAHC-Certified Surgical Center

Dr. Courtney performs surgeries in his AAAHC-certified ambulatory surgery center (ASC), offering a comfortable, convenient, and safe environment for your facelift procedure. Patients typically spend 26% less time in recovery compared to a hospital setting, allowing for a more efficient healing process.

After your facelift, you will awaken with bandages in place and receive individual nursing care in our recovery facility, where you will stay for 24 hours for observation. While some post-surgical swelling and discomfort are expected, Dr. Courtney will prescribe pain medication to ensure your comfort during the initial recovery phase.

Prior to surgery, you will receive detailed instructions on post-operative care to minimize swelling and maximize healing. We also offer an Aquacool mask to help reduce bruising and swelling. Despite the complexity of facelift surgery, recovery is manageable, with most patients experiencing minimal pain.

Most swelling will subside within the first two weeks, allowing you to return to normal daily activities in about 10 to 14 days. However, we do advise refraining from vigorous exercise or activities for about one month to protect your healing face and ensure the best results.
